I Love You, Too! by Michael Foreman is a very sweet and timeless story about a little bear’s attempts to prolong his time with his Dad. Perfect read for Father’s Day or anytime that you want to let Dad know that he is loved. Papa bear thinks he is wise to baby bear’s ploy, that is, to stay up longer by prolonging his bedtime. Baby bear keeps coming with metaphors to describe how much he loves his Dad. Papa bear keep replying, “I love you, too. Now go to sleep!
But the real touching aspect of this book is its ending. Sure, baby bear wants to stay up a little bit longer and read his bedtime story again but he was also trying to get his Dad to stay with him. And ultimately he succeeded by wearing him out!
It’s a familiar tale, avoiding bedtime, “read me another story”, “can I have another glass of water”, “I’m not tired yet”, and so on but there’s more to this book. The baby bear just wants his Dad next to him, even if he’s sleeping. Kids feel more secure when their parents are around and it’s up to us to let them know how much they are loved when we are there and when we are not. This book is a great talking point to discuss the love and support of family.
